The photo below, is the planetary (HII) emission nebula, NGC7635 (Sh-162), also known as the
"
Bubble Nebula", located ~ 7 to 8KLyr away in the constellation Cassiopeia. Also seen in the photo,
is the open cluster M52.

The bubble is caused by the stellar wind from the high mass, type "O", star designated SAO20575,
impinging on the local hydrogen cloud. The bubble, which is slightly enlongated N-S is about 10 Lyr
in diameter, and has an angular extent of ~15' in the photo.

The cluster, M52, also known as NGC7654, is located at a distance of ~ 5 to 7KLyr. Its diameter of
~19Lyr results in an apparent diameter of 13'. There are ~190 members within the cluster, with a
typical (main sequence) stellar magnitude of 11, but ranging up to two giants (type F9) with
brightness mag 7.7 and (type G8) mag 8.2. The estimated age of the cluster is on the order of
35Myrs.
