This image of Saturn were taken with the Atik 1HSII and 1CII on a Tak turret, through a
X2 barlow (w/ extension) at f/38 on the mewlon. The 1HS was used for the luminance
channel, the 1C provided the RGB channels. Both were run at 10fps, the lum for
180s, the RGB for 100s. The lum data was stretched to bring out the crepe ring, the
RGB data was processed to remove the effects of differential refraction
This photo of Saturn was my first
of (late) 2007 with the Lumenera
(Skynyx 2-0M), and LRGB filters in
the imaging train introduced in
October. Seeing was ~6/10 with
good transparency. The photo
was taken w/ the Mewlon 250 @
f/39. Notice how much the ring
angle has changed since 2005, it
will be almost in line with us in
2008 (and essentially disappear).
The image below was captured March 2, 2008, under 6/10 seeing and 8/10
transparency, using the Mewlon at f/38. Notice the dim moon Titan above the
planet (a very dim Tethys is below the right side rings)
Saturn photo was taken the night of Mar 11, 2008 under 5-6/10 seeing and 8/10
transparency (decent conditions for us during winter months) using the Lumenera
Skynyx through Astronomik LRGB filters in a TrueTech wheel and barlow w/ extension on
the Mewlon @ f/39. (Rhea is just above the right side of the ring, but its surface
brightness is ~ 3mag/sq.sec below the planet, therefore invisible w/o significant
stretching)
